How can I obtain a .aero domain?

If you are eligible for .aero domain names (i.e. are a member of the aviation community), you simply have to purchase through the following address : our .AERO registration system.

Why is .aero more expensive than other domains?

Other domains such as .com are open to everybody - there are no restrictions and as such the registration is less complicated and cheaper to maintain. As .aero is restricted to members of the aviation community, we have to verify each potential registrant to ensure they are a valid aviation member before admitting them to .aero. We are required to do this by ICANN, but furthermore - it is essential to maintain the integrity of .aero, and to prove to the aviation community that .aero is a trusted place to do business.

How do I prove I am a valid member of the aviation community?

There are different types of proof required dependant upon which aviation sector you belong to - e.g. Airline Operating Certificate or pilot's licence. Registrars will advise which proof you will need. Once this is established you can be issued with an ID to purchase your names.

How do I get my aviation community membership ID?

Do the Registrars (.aero shops) operate through SITA?

No, SITA is the official sponsor of .aero and as such can not process applications for .aero names. This is done by independent Registrars - accredited by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) and authorised by SITA.
